What is a Red Velvet Cake?
Red Velvet Cake is conventionally a red-brown colored cake. The reason behind the red color is rich cocoa and some food color, which gives it a scarlet color. The traditional recipes won’t use any artificial colors. Red Velvet Cake is basically originated in the United States. The most common ingredients used in Red Velvet Cakes are buttermilk, butter, cocoa, and flour.
Red Velvet Cake is a belief to have risen in Maryland early in the 20th century. During World War 2 bakers used boiled beetroot juices to enhance the color. Traditionally ermine icing is done on the Red Velvet Cake.
In modern day’s Red velvet cake has become progressively liked in the US and other European countries.
The reason behind soft velvety the texture of Red Velvet Cake:
The most commonly used ingredients are buttermilk, vinegar, vegetable oil, and food color. As a result of acidic, the reaction between vinegar and buttermilk, moist texture, and better red color is obtained.

Easy red velvet cake recipe:
- In a mixing bowl add flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, cocoa powder through a sieve, and mix well.
- Take a separate bowl and add in butter, sugar, and whisk them till the butter becomes airy. After whisking rapidly add in eggs, buttermilk, vinegar, vanilla extract, and food color. Whisk it gradually.
- Now add flour mixture and gently fold it.
- Take a round cake mold with butter paper placed at its bottom and round corners. Transfer the batter into the mold and bake it for 35-40 minutes in a preheated oven at 180’c.
Frosting:
Take a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract until a smooth mixture is formed. Take another bowl mix, both whipped cream and cream cheese batter by the folding method.
Icing:
Once the cake is baked properly take it out and keep it aside for cooling. Once it’s cooled down properly, trim the top and side corners and horizontally cut into two pieces. Add whipped cream in the middle layer, add some cream on the top, and garnish it properly in the way you want. Also, you can use some cherries.
